Drama scholars and some Sixth Form students had the opportunity to take part in a screen acting workshop before half term, run by MN Actors Academy.

The aim of the workshop was to enable the students to see the clear differences in performance skill between stage and screen acting and have the opportunity to develop their ability in the latter.

Students were given a short script which they were urged to memorise as best as possible in a short period of time (no problem for our outstanding performers).

In pairs they then had to perform the piece in front of a camera, which the rest of the group watched and evaluated. After each short performance Elliot, the leader of the workshops would teach them a new skill important to screen acting (vocal volume, awareness of extras, motivation, injecting your own interpretation and creative flair and personality to the scene) and gave the pairs time to practise the skills.

As the session progressed each group became more natural in front of the camera and having time to practise with clear direction, as well as learning from each other through observation, enabled every student to expand their tool box of performance skills and demonstrate their ability to adapt to different performance styles.

Mrs Emma Farrell, Head of Drama, said: "This was an exciting workshop for all involved as many have not been in front of a camera before and allowed students from Year 9 to 13 to work together in an exciting and new way."
