Pupils in Year 8 have been busy painting some superb animal head canvases this term. They are now taking pride of place in the Great Hall in gallery style for all to enjoy while they are dining.
So how did these fabulous paintings come about? Head of Art, Mr James Ramsay talks us through the process of the art project:
"Year 8 started by preparing the base-layers with bright, vibrant acrylic paints, PVA glue and newspaper.
"Next, they selected an animal head out of a random group and then set about creating the texture and details using contrasting colours to the background.
"This was a deliberate use of colour theory and meant that the heads really stand-out in their respective colour schemes.
"They worked in groups of 3 or 4 and split the work between them showing incredible team spirit, good planning and superb artistic skill. The results are superb - massive, exciting and colourful - well done lads."
Three Year 8 boys, Evan Greenaway, Ameen Al-Amin and Hamish Arnold spoke to Mr Howe about the canvasses in this week's Whole School Assembly.
They said the choice of animals were pulled out of a hat and the colours were assigned by house.
When asked about what tips they learned along the way, Hamish said: "We had to learn to work as a team, because everybody needed something to do."
Evan said: "The hardest part was trying to figure out who should do what, and who was better at which thing."
Mr Howe said: "They are absolutely spectacular and I have heard so many complements from so many people so thank you to all of you for brightening up the Great Hall with all of your hard work."
