It was a very belated Pancake Day at Shiplake last Friday as the prefects and chapel wardens came head to head in the eagerly anticipated annual Shiplake Pancake Day Race.

Due to Lockdown 3.0, plans were put on hold for the annual fixture where prefects and chapel wardens race in relay up and down the front drive, flipping a pancake as they go. Runners must flip their pancakes once before running the length of the course and handing over the pan to the next runner.

With pre-race day commentary from roving reporter, Mr Jones, the feelings from spectators were that this could be either team's win - it was too close to call.

Still recovering from an ankle injury, and also to ensure impartiality, the race started with prefect and chapel warden, Rada Pandeva walking down the drive with both pans and pancakes to give to the first runners in the relay - and they were off!

It was a brilliant atmosphere with pupils and teachers cheering on the Year 13 runners in their bubbles. And, so much fun was had by the runners that they decided to run the relay twice!

Both teams did really well, but the crown remains with the reigning champions, the prefects, by a narrow margin.
