Congratulations to business student Will Taylor in Year 13 who has been placed third in a prestigious national competition called Side Hustle, securing £1,500 investment in his business, .wlroo.
The Side Hustle competition was run by the company Your Game Plan, a digital e-learning platform for schools. The initiative was a nationwide search for 14-18 year olds who are either already delivering a side hustle or who have a business idea that they are passionate about launching.
Will's application was shortlisted from 210 candidates where he was invited along with 25 finalists to pitch in front of judges from the business world. Will, and all 25 finalists, will now receive business plan advice and six months of professional mentoring.
Will is currently studying business, IT and media in the Sixth Form and it was his business studies teacher, Mrs Sally Bayley, who suggested Will entered the Side Hustle competition. He first started working on his motion design company .wlroo when he was 12. He produces digital promotion videos for businesses and people looking for personal branding, using a range of graphics software to make his videos stand out. He also runs a community of around 1,700 designers around the world.
Will said: "I had to prepare a 5-minute presentation which I had to give in front of 5 judges as well as an audience. I then was asked a series of questions.
"I'm going to use the earnings from the competition to formalise the work allocation process I've developed within my global designer community. I may also use the prize money to increase my live stream quality."
