On Monday 20 June the Shiplake Art Scholars and Art Ambassadors went on an art-packed day to the Bournemouth seaside. The weather was fantastic and all the students were an absolute delight.
The group started with drawing activities on the train ride there and then had a quick ice cream stop before exploring the Oceanarium. This was brilliant with an underwater tunnel where they walked underneath turtles, stingrays and sharks. Before watching the penguin feeding and exploring more, students were able to go and take their own photographs and complete more drawing tasks.
Luka in Year 7 said: "I honestly really enjoyed the oceanarium. All the creatures there were really interesting and unique and the way it was constructed was fun. There were three things that I enjoyed the most: the feeding session with the penguins and arctic terns, the two stuffed toys I bought and finally the long underwater tunnel with the giant turtle, the sting ray and the moray eels. However, my highlight of the trip was when I asked for two scoops of ice cream and in return I got what looked like a 16-scoop ice cream which was the size of my head! It was scrumptious."
Jessica in Year 12 said: "It was a fun day out for all the year groups, I hope in the future there will be more art scholar trips for us to enjoy."
At lunchtime, the group went for fish and chips to the famous Harry Ramsden’s. All the students enjoyed their lunchtime together and it was lovely to see all the different year groups sitting and chatting together.
After lunch the afternoon was spent on the beach painting and drawing. It was such a fabulous day and Head of Art, Mrs Thomas's highlight was seeing all the students of such different ages enjoying each other’s company and sharing ideas.
Mrs Krause, Art Teacher, said: "What a wonderful day and what a wonderful group of talented and enthusiastic students who created some outstanding work both on the move and on the beach. I'm looking forward to the next scholarship trip."
Mrs Brooks, Art Technician, said: "It was such a brilliant day with so much art created on the train, in the oceanarium, on the beach, and on the bus and train coming back to school. It was lovely to see students from Years 7-12 working together and learning from each other."
