On Monday 4 January the annual House Art Competition was held in the Great Hall, with pupils from across the school showcasing their hard work. Any medium was accepted; paintings, prints, sculpture, ceramics and photography were all welcomed into the competition. The Great Hall was adorned with a variety of pupils’ and staff members’ artistic triumphs, and parents, friends and family were welcomed to the exhibition.

The competition was split into categories according to how artwork was presented, and a guest judge was invited to the school to judge the work and award the prizes. Professional artist Beryl acted as the guest judge for the close competition. Having exhibited internationally, and been featured in magazines around the world, Beryl takes inspiration from vintage designs and patterns, and transforms them for a contemporary world. Remaining impartial to the judging, Mrs Gillings noted that ‘we have an exceptional level of talent on offer this year; every year I am so impressed by the unique and innovative pieces that we get to showcase, and the pupils never disappoint: each year they produce such professional artwork that show artistic flair.’ Prizes were awarded for each year for painting and drawing, sculpture and lino print. Points were awarded, and winners were chosen for each category.

After a tough time deliberating, Beryl judged Orchard House to be the overall competition winners, for the second year running! Skipwith came a close second, with Welsh following in third place. See below for a full list of winners in each category:
