Last week saw the return of our Parents Association’s favourite event, The Macmillan Coffee Morning!
A week ago today, the Parents Association came together and organised a truly spectacular coffee morning in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support. With an amazing assortment of cakes, brownies and biscuits alongside tea and coffee; staff, parents and members of the community here at Shiplake were able to support the charity while doing something we all enjoy… eating cake!
Macmillan was founded in 1911 when Douglas Macmillan used £10 he inherited to establish the ‘society for the prevention and relief of Cancer’. Since then, the services offered by the charity have been accessed more than 9 million times. In 1991, Macmillan held its first ‘World’s Biggest Coffee Morning’ with 300,000 people taking part to raise over £250,000.
Last year, the combined total of all the donations received on The World’s Biggest Coffee Morning surpassed £29.5 million! No word yet on this year’s total, but if last year is anything to go by, it is safe to assume that the amazing work of Macmillan Cancer Support will be around for some years yet!
In total, Shiplake College raised £385.50! Thank you to the Parents Association for organising this wonderful event, thank you to those who brought in cakes and other sweet treats, and most importantly thank you to the amazing people at Macmillan Cancer Support who continue to save lives and help those find the light in their darkest times.
