Last Friday saw a particularly varied Lunchtime Concert, as beatboxers, DJs, drummers and singers performed their hearts out in front of their peers.
The 20 minute concert started with professional beatboxer, Josh Watkinson. Josh had earlier in the day run beatboxing workshops with a selection of our Year 8, 9, 10 and 12 music classes. Students learned how to sound out kick, snare and hi-hat noises with their mouths, and create and improvise their own "beats". Josh also taught students how to make bass sounds and lines on top of their beats. Josh ended the workshop with beatboxing and rap battles which all of the students thoroughly enjoyed. After performing with four Year 9 pupils at the lunchtime concert, Josh gave some inspirational advice on performing to an audience to those in attendance.
Next up at the concert was Johnny Miller, who sang Adele’s classic Make You Feel My Love. Johnny’s confidence has soared since first stepping on the stage at last year's Spring Concert and his talent is undeniable. Following Johnny was Year 12 Isaac Ashfield, who performed a short piece on the drums. He set the scene fantastically for Year 10 pupil Tom Stuart; AKA DJ Stu!
Tom has been learning how to DJ with Future DJs since the beginning of term. Every Tuesday, Future DJ Matt visits the College and spends 30 minutes teaching pupils from Years 7-10 how to use the equipment and how to use beats and effects to enhance the music they are working with.
Tom mixed a few tracks before playing the audience out. He did a fantastic job, and is certainly a Future DJ.
Well done to everyone who performed with such confidence, and thank you to all those who came.
