In the final week of the Spring Term, on Wednesday 29 March, the Sports Hall was transformed into a music arena for our annual Spring Concert! Packed out with a buzzing audience, we were treated to a wonderful display from our talented musicians.
Musicians, bands and choirs from across the College put on a memorable show and were introduced to the audience by the evening’s hosts – Esme Young and Matt Grundy. Many of the performers were veterans of stagecraft but for some, it was their first time performing on stage, though you would be hard-pressed to tell.
As they did in the Winter Concert, Rare Groove opened the show with an all-time musical classic – Grease by Frankie Valli. This was followed by our Lower School pupils in which it was great to see the whole stage filled as they sang as a choir.
In addition to many familiar acts such as Idle Thoughts, the Camerata, and B13; members of the audience were treated to a special performance from Orchard House. Fresh off the back of their brilliant performance in the House Singing Competition, Orchard’s Ensemble group performed their rendition of ABBA’s Super Trooper, much to the audience’s delight.
Big Band closed the show with Moment’s Notice by John Coltrane, and The Flik Machine by Randy Newman.
Director of Music, Mr Curran, said:
‘I am delighted at the ever-growing number of instrumentalists and singers who continue to take to the stage and inspire our younger musicians. The choirs are in fine voice and the instrumentalists are performing confidently and exude character. The solos in 'Rosanna' and 'Nice to Meet Ya' were expertly handled, and the Wind Ensemble provides plenty of evidence of just how quickly our beginner players are progressing to be able to perform in concert.’
