On Tuesday 12 February, Assistant Head Co-curricular Mr Hunt took eight boys to Radley College to take part in the annual Radley Cross Country Relay Competition. About 200 boys and girls from independent schools all over the South East ran the muddy 3.14km cross-country course around the grounds of Radley College.

The Shiplake boys were from Years 10 and 11, and took part in the U17s category. The format saw teams of four each running a lap of the course with a baton, which contained the timing chip. Both teams performed really well considering it was their first event and they had not done any specific cross-country training.

Of the 17 teams to compete, Shiplake’s A-team came in with a time of 51 minutes and 43 seconds. The winners were Harrow School, who completed the course in an impressive time of 47 minutes 27 seconds. Shiplake finished ahead of Abingdon, Eton, St Edward's and Bradfield.

It was a really well organised event in great surroundings. All the boys who took part found the course challenging but enjoyed themselves and are hoping to compete again next year. They are also keen to find some similar events to enter before then!

Team A – A Hunt, H Batchelor, K Sarkytbayev and N McCarthy

Team B – D Hillier, J Perry, G Lucas and H Poustie
