On Monday 11 February, pupils in years 9, 10 and 11 took part in the Junior Inter-House Hockey.
Head of Hockey Mr Walter innovated the tournament and its rules, in order to accommodate the young players. These rules meant that teams were to consist of no more than seven players and none of whom was to be a goalkeeper. Quick starts were to be had after a goal in order to keep the games and tournament moving along swiftly.
The houses were divided into two leagues to play pool-style games before a direct playoff for the trophy.
League 1 consisted of Eggar, Burr, Lapping and Welsh, who each faced-off against each other, whilst League 2 saw Wells-Furby, Everett and Bevan take to the pitch.
Burr started well by drawing with Eggar, before Welsh lost to a very strong Lapping team. Lapping went on to beat Burr and Welsh then beat Eggar. This left Lapping in first place and Welsh in second place.
League 2 was made up of Wells-Furby, who beat Everett, Bevan, who also beat Everett and Wells-Furby, leaving Bevan in first place and Wells-Furby in second.
The final was between both Orchard teams; Lapping and Bevan. It was a very tight match that ended with an even score after full time. They played two slots of extra time before being forced into Mr Curtis' unique take on penalties. The last penalty decided the tournament winners - Bevan.
The tournament’s top scorers were Sam Gillen and Archie Smith, both in Year 9. Thank you to Mr Curtis for refereeing, and to Mrs Bayley for assisting and providing this report.
