On Friday 27 September, Shiplake parents, staff and pupils joined thousands of people across the UK and beyond for the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning, in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support. Last year’s Macmillan Coffee Morning raised a jaw dropping £26,914,382 and this annual event is a great way for parents to meet and chat with one another whilst helping this charity to try and beat the previous year’s total.
Erica Ferguson, our Chair of the Parents’ Association, comments: “The Macmillan Coffee Morning was a fabulous opportunity for the Shiplake family to get together for a relaxed and delicious start to the day while supporting a wonderful charity. Thank you so much to Kiersti Way for organising, and to all the parents and staff who supported us by either providing the beautiful baking or making donations!”
The selection of baked treats truly was amazing, including fairy cakes, chocolate brownies, rocky roads, cookies, sponge cakes, banana bread and many more. Thanks to Year 12 girls N Dunn and A Gereke for giving up their time to help lay the cakes out and serve hot drinks. Remaining cakes were sold at breaktime to pupils and staff and it was wonderful to see the generosity of the girls and boys, many of whom delved into pockets to donate coins even if they weren’t getting cakes in return.
From everyone here at Shiplake College, we’d like to thank those who came to our coffee morning and for all your very generous donations towards an amazing cause. We raised an outstanding £288, which the College has topped up to £300 as our onsite caterers Thomas Franks generosly donated tea, coffee and scones free of charge. This money has been sent to Macmillan Cancer Support to help continue all the great work they do.
