Skipwith House was crowned quiz champions in the Autumn Term’s Inter-House Quiz events, which ran over a series of Thursday lunchtimes.

Organised by Dr D’Rozario, representatives from each year group in their houses battled it out with a series of general knowledge questions including:

  • How many Marvel movies have been released in the MCU?
  • Which British Prime Minister was awarded the Nobel Prize in literature?
  • In what year was the first Star Wars film released?
  • Which Central American country has a name which translated to English as ‘The Saviour'?
  • What African country has the largest population?
  • What is the longest river in the UK?

First up was Year 9 with Skipwith taking the lead very early on. Then onto Round two and Year 10 with Everett winning by 1.5 points, in what was a very close contest.

In round 3 for the Year 11 quiz, there was a tie breaker situation. Dr D'Rozario explains:

“After 25 questions, Skipwith, Orchard and Welsh were tied on 15 points. Reuben Logan, Matt Grundy and Max Patterson represented their houses in the first tie breaker of the Shiplake Quiz contest. Mr Rose’s tie breaker question was:

‘How fast (in mph) do you need to travel to go back or forward in time in Back to the Future films.’ Reuben Logan answered correctly: 88 mph.”

It was another win for Skipwith.

Next was round 4 and Year 12 were up.

Dr D'Rozario said: “Going into the round, it was tight at the top of the leaderboard, with Skipwith ahead by 2 points, however, gaining a record-breaking score of 19 out of 25, Everett had narrowed the gap to one point overall. A great win for Everett!

Round 5 was quiz day for Year 13 and with Skipwith ahead by one point overall the competition was tight. Skipwith took the win with 30 out of 40 points. A great result. Orchard were a close second, posting a respectable 25.

The final scores were as follows:

  • 1st: Skipwith, 95 points
  • 2nd: Everett, 85 points
  • 3rd: Orchard 83.5 points
  • 4th: Welsh: 74.5 points
  • 5th: Burr 72.5 points

Congratulations to Skipwith!

Mr D’Rozario said: “Again, my thanks to all the students that took part. Also, thank you for the sterling support of my colleagues, especially Mrs Green, Mr Ralph, Mr Rose, Mr Curtis, Mr Milburn, Mr Nel, Mr Player and Mr Urkidi.”
