The Sixth Form ‘Iron Man’ challenge, which kicked off with a Masterchef style competition between boys from College House and girls from Gilson, has seen the next stage of the contest take place. Teams from Gilson and College were selected to participate in the General Knowledge quiz, which was held on Friday 18 March. Skipwith Housemaster Mr Alex Duncan took the reigns as quiz master, whilst teams of four from each house tackled a range of different topics to be crowned champions.
James Hargreaves, Greg Cooke, Harry Ibbitson and Oliver Riley made up the College House team, taking on Eliska Zaharova, Louise French, Jemima Brimbacombe and Phoebe Eggar from Gilson. The teams sat across from each other, each with a buzzer at the ready; the stage was set and the anticipation was palpable! With a large audience in the Lecture Theatre, the teams were faced with tricky questions about world geography and pop song lyrics, as well as challenging puzzles designed to test the teams’ lateral thinking skills. After several gruelling rounds, and with just a few points in it, the boys edged to victory!
College House now lead the inter-house challenge 2-0 after the two challenges. Mr Marcus Milburn, Resident Tutor for College House, commented that ‘the boys did really well and we’re thrilled with the results! The girls were stiff competition but we knew that victory could be ours…Now it is only the netball match to go, and this is the last chance for the girls to salvage some pride!’
