Shiplake College’s talented musicians got the Easter weekend started on Good Friday with the premiere of the Virtual Spring Concert.
With a range of classical, contemporary, choral and instrumental pieces, there was something for everyone to enjoy.
The evening opened with a bang with the Year 11 band, Six Loose Strings playing a cover of Blur’s Song 2. The group were performing on the Front Field with some footage from the Tithe Barn too. Thank you to Year 11 pupil, Dan Beard for providing the drone footage for this performance.
It was then onto the Year 10 band, Unplugged, for their rendition of Bruises by Lewis Capaldi.
The Year 12 band, Be Ware performed two pieces, What Once Was by Hers, and Parliament Hill by Smith and Burrows. Lead singer Tom Stuart also provided the lovely scenic drone footage of the College site used for the performances.
Year 11 pupil Milo Griffiths, also performed two tracks, Don’t Think Twice, It’s Alright by Bob Dylan and his own composition, Lights and Sirens.
The Brass Ensemble performed Fanfare - La Morisque by Susato on location in the Pavilion and Tithe Barn, and then it was over to the Shiplake parish church for Pie Jesu performed by Year 7 pupil Jack Dag with his singing teacher Mrs Kench. The Year 12 Choir were also in the church singing Cross of Jesus, Cross of Sorrow by Stainer.
Year 12 pupil, James Braun made his solo debut with Perfect by Ed Sheeran and our Year 9 band performed two tracks on the Front Field, A Hard Day’s Night by The Beatles and All the Small Things by Blink 182.
The evening came to a close with the feel good number, Best Days of My Life by the American Authors sung by our Virtual Rock Choir.
Mr Richard Curran, Director of Music, said: “I would like to say a huge well done and thank you to all of our performers for their hard work in preparing for and performing in the Spring Concert.
“Because of lockdown, they only had a few short weeks to prepare for this concert and I have been impressed with their commitment and dedication.
“We have some really talented musicians at Shiplake and I am looking forward to when we can start putting on live performances again.”
