On Wednesday 23 March a group of Year 9s and GCSE Music pupils enjoyed a trip to the Royal Festival Hall in London for a GCSE Concert performed by the London Philharmonic Orchestra.

The purpose of the visit was to develop skills in score analysis and establish an understanding of musical features used to identify works from different musical periods.

The concert was presented by Rachel Leach who has for many years delivered symposiums and seminars on GCSE and A Level set works on YouTube, so her insights were relatable and she steered the audience through each of the works in a dynamic fashion.

The event was interactive and the whole audience managed to act as instruments in a minimalist composition.

A walk along the Southbank, through Covent Garden and along the Mall to Buckingham Palace brought a very enjoyable trip to a final, perfect cadence.
