The whole of the Shiplake Community really got into the festival spirit at Shiplake Rocks! on Monday 27 June. With acts throughout the evening on the main stage in the marquee and more acoustic sets in the Tipi Tent, there was something to suit all musical tastes. DJ Robbie also began and ended the evening with sundowner sets from the Pavilion balcony.

We were deligted to welcome back an number of talented Old Vikings who perfomed at the event. Maddie Arora (21O), Jack Parrott (19S), Tayla Caldeira (18S), Darcy Timms (18E) and former staff member Aled Elmore all entertained the crouds that were gathered at the Tipi Tent. Marcus Bagshawe (17S) also returned to the College to help the sound crew backstage.

An array of street food was available, including Year 13 student Tom Stuart's Pizza Please horsebox, vegan curries, waffles and a gourmet burger van allowed festival goers to eat on the go between sets.

Director of Music, Mr Richard Curran, sums up what was a fantastic evening: "Schools are all about pupils being engaged, challenged and enabled to find their element amongst the rich and varied opportunities and experiences the enjoy.

"For me, Shiplake Rocks 2022 was the pinnacle for many young musicians at the end of a musical journey that spanned the last 12 months. Some found their spark through the lower school Symphonic Challenge which propelled them on stage having found a passion for their instrument only a matter of months ago.

"Others have been on a longer journey, presenting accomplished performances that come only from seriously hard work and a desire to be the best musical version of themselves.

"With a selection of artisan food stalls, two stages, excellent performances by current and former pupils and good company it was a wonderful evening showcasing a love of music by the whole Shiplake community.

"On behalf of all of us in the Music Department we wish you a warm and sunny summer holiday and look forward to another year filled with music when we come back in September."
