In the first Lunchtime Concert of 2023, on Thursday 26 January, we were treated to some fantastic performances by pupils from Year 8 to Sixth Form. It was also wonderful to see new faces perform at a Lunchtime Concert as well as veterans of stagecraft.
First to perform was Year 9 pupil, Thomas Rowe, who channelled his inner Ringo Starr with his rendition on the drums of Come Together by The Beatles. Next to perform was Year 9's George Watson who sang Mark Hayes's The Water is Wide, with Mrs Rapple Moore accompanying on the piano. Despite this being George's debut performance here at Shiplake, there were no signs of nerves in an excellent performance.
In the first of two guitar acts, Year 9's H Cookson was first up on stage with his performance on the bass guitar covering Misery Business by Paramore. This was followed by a debut solo performance from Year 8's Luke Leamon who not only played the guitar, but sang as well! In this act, Luke covered Stray Cats's Stray Cat Strut and not even the flickering lights could deter him and his performance.
Last to take the stage was B13, the College's well-known BTEC Year 13 band who performed Niall Horan's Nice to Meet Ya as part of one of their coursework pieces.
Music teacher, Mr Elliot, said:
'The Lunchtime Concerts are an amazing opportunity for musicians of all abilities to have a go performing on stage in front of students and teachers, whether it is their first time on stage or whether they are a master of stagecraft. This concert is no exception with a real mix of experienced and new performers!'
Well done to everyone for their brilliant performances in this Lunchtime Concert! Below is a photo gallery of the concert, and a highlights video will be released soon!
