Back in the Autumn Term, our Sixth Form Young Enterprise team established their own business selling innovative product Lumijars.

The attractive illuminated potpourri diffusers proved to be an extremely Christmas gift, and now the company have diversified to offer products suitable for summer garden parties. The team have also introduced a new personalisation option.

Last month, Managing Director Harry Marsden as well as Finance Directors Harry Wiggins and Daniel DiGiulio travelled to Stratford upon Avon for a Young Enterprise trade fair. The boys demonstrated an impressive aptitude for sales as they raked in £120. This was enough to earn qualification to the regional finals.

This stage involved writing a company report and performing a three minute pitch to an expert panel of judges. At the presentation evening in Oxford, Harry Wiggins was joined by Head of Operations Will Janes and HR Manager Adib Waine. All three performed excellently, winning a glass award and certificate for Best Company Stand and Interview.

Knowing that the top three businesses at the regional finals would progress to the national stage of the competition, Shiplake were desperately unlucky to finish in fourth place. Young Enterprise leader and Economics teacher Mr Bluck praised the pupils for the time and effort they have put in this year to make Lumijars such a success.

Team member George Lawley said: “The competition has gone really well. At the regional finals we were up against around 16 other schools, many of whom entered multiple teams. Whilst it is a bit disappointing to miss out on making it to the next stage, we are very pleased to have finished fourth overall and also earn an individual award.”
