Soloists' Concert 2024
Music

At the start of the Summer Term, on Friday 26 April, members of the Shiplake community were treated to a special intimate concert where we enjoyed the exceptional talents of the College's music scholars and advanced musicians.

The Soloists' Concert is an integral part of an advanced musician's journey. From classical, romantic, and impressionist works to jazz and folk songs, our young musicians performed a variety of familiar and unfamiliar works. On the night, there were performances by pupils across the College from those in Year 7 through to Year 13, and it was also wonderful to see a wide variety of performances such as pieces on the piano, clarinet, and trumpet, as well as many pieces for voice.

Speaking of the concert, Director of Music Mr Curran said:

‘The performers were looking forward to presenting their chosen works to their family, friends and teachers so thank you for coming to support them on the evening.

A significant role in preparing any soloist concert or recital is that of the accompanist, so on behalf of the singers and instrumentalists I would like to extend my thanks to Mrs Rapple Moore, Mrs Hughes, and Mrs Auty for expertly accompanying our musicians, and to our team of Visiting Music Teachers for preparing the young musicians for this event.’

Well done to the following pupils for their dedication, hard work, and hours of practice:

  • Rory Collar, piano.
  • Jack Dag, voice.
  • Sena Hughes, piano.
  • Max Marson-Day, piano and voice.
  • George Watson, voice.
  • R Pathak, piano.
  • Seb Crehan Mills, clarinet.
  • Ed Murphy, voice.
  • Will Griffith, voice.
  • Elliot Jones, trumpet.
  • Charles Peng, piano.
  • Noah Scotchbrook, voice.
