Since only being introduced as a major sport in the Spring Term of 2016, football has since grown to become the most participated sport in the school with 12 boys and 4 girls' teams taking part in weekly competitive fixtures.
While competing with hockey, rowing and rugby 7s in the Spring Term, it is staggering to have over 50% of the College cohort participating in football fixtures every week. The College fields A and B teams at all age groups up to senior level, while the senior boys have four teams that compete in the 'Super 8' Wednesday league and the ISFA Cup and the two senior girls' teams also compete in the ISFA Cup as well as playing weekly fixtures. This provides an opportunity to experience competitive fixtures to all pupils who wish to play.
As well as the Super 8 league, weekly Saturday fixtures are scheduled throughout the Spring Term against a diverse range of local independent and state schools. Despite being a relatively small school, the hard work and spirit shown by Shiplake teams is invariably enough to compete admirably against opposing schools with larger cohorts.
In addition to the large, diverse fixture card that all our teams have, all pupils also get the opportunity to compete in the annual inter-house football competition which are always hotly contested affairs in the fight to be crowned the best footballing house in the school.
