At Shiplake, we seek to do more than just prepare students to pass exams. We believe it is vital that our students develop learning dispositions that prepare them for the modern world. We believe qualities such as independence and creativity are just as important as grades, if not more so.
The Thinking Space is specifically designed to foster and encourage creativity, collaboration and independence. This innovative learning facility, which opened in September 2014, is inspired by creative companies such as Google and Innocent, who have shown that creative spaces help to encourage creative thought.
The unique, contemporary area is divided into multiple sections, including a book nook for quite reading or work, a flow room which is intended for focused, independent work, a boardroom for mini lectures or team work and a large central space with tables for focused and collaborative work.
Our aim is to create a place where young people want to learn, and to provide them with resources to support them in their learning. The Thinking Space is unique; it is the College's library, where pupils are encouraged to study and access the many digital resources at hand, and is home to dedicated study spaces. All students will be using devices to access the school’s online subscription content platforms at school and at home.
The Thinking Space is situated in the heart of the College grounds and will be at the heart of our ongoing commitment to develop young people passionate about thinking and learning.
