Over 30 Old Vikings from across the 1970s decade attended a lunch at Shiplake College at the beginning of August.
The event started with a drinks reception in the sun out on Skipwith Terrace. Guests then headed to the Old Viking Room (OVR), which would have been known as the library when the former pupils were pupils, where they enjoyed a buffet lunch and an afternoon reminiscing of their schooldays.
The lunch was spearheaded by Michael Nops (77W), with Old Vikings who left in 1973 and those who left in 1978 in attendance, with many inbetween. Along with Ian Cruickshank (73W) was Lucina Cruickshank (73S) who was one of the very few girls who attended Shiplake before the College formally went coeducational in the sixth form in 1998!
As part of the proceedings there was a short Shiplake Quiz created by Alistair Newman (77E), which included questions such as 'For how many years did the BBC own Shiplake Court?'. Congratulations to Simon Varnals (73W) who won by being closest in the tie-break round.
There have been many reports of what a wonderful occasion it was and there are calls for a similar event next year - watch this space!
