Building Bonds One Task at a Time
Sixth FormPrefects

On Friday 4 October, our Prefects and Chapel Wardens took part in a team building afternoon on Front Field. Taking place in glorious sunshine, the session provided the perfect opportunity for our Year 13 pupils to engage in fun activities and tasks, while working on key skills for their respective positions.

The team-building afternoon was organised by WiseUp who are team building specialists that we have used on many occasions. WiseUp provide fun and educational activities all over the country by bringing the equipment to participants, often in their extremely distinguishable van and it was great to welcome them back to the College!

For the afternoon, the pupils were split into three groups before being put through their paces with a series of challenges. The challenges are designed to encourage pupils to plan, communicate and work together and throughout the day, the pupils were required to analyse their teamwork and efficiency and reflect on what they had learned about themselves and those around them.

Challenges included moving a small ball around an obstacle course on a board with holes. A lot of careful balance and patience was required for this with the phrase ‘slow but steady’ coming to mind. Of course, this would soon be discarded by the teams in timed challenges. Other challenges required teams to be co-ordinated in their movements on giant ‘skis’, while other challenges required a degree of logical often mathematical thinking.

Throughout the afternoon, there was very much an air of competitiveness and often within the teams themselves with the Prefects and Chapel Wardens mixed. However, the competitive edge throughout the day was healthy and gave each group something to work for.

Speaking after the session, Assistant Head (Pastoral) Mrs Dunn said:

‘The purpose of the event was to further strengthen the bonds and relationships with the Prefects and Chapel Wardens and to enable the students realise they are all part of a bigger team. The afternoon will also further help them to work with each other which they are already doing superbly well this academic year.

The students had to problem solve and think outside of the box in order to complete the tasks. Much fun and entertainment was had with the students laughing with one another and all in all, it was a great afternoon and thoroughly worthwhile.’
