Ice, Ice, Iceland!
Trips & Visits

What an incredible trip and unforgettable experience! This was truly a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for students to explore geography in a way they never had before. Mr Cooper, a seasoned visitor to Iceland with five trips under his belt, was deeply impressed by the students’ enthusiasm and the memorable experiences they encountered over the five days and writes the following:

During our time in Iceland, students enjoyed numerous highlights including snorkelling between the tectonic plates that divide Iceland, walking on one of the world’s fastest-shrinking glaciers, and visiting the famous Blue Lagoon.

The group was awestruck by the Northern Lights, which appeared two nights in a row. Many students were fortunate enough to view this spectacular natural phenomenon from the hotel’s sauna and hot tubs—a memory that will surely stay with them forever.

While the trip was filled with adventure, it was also rich in educational value. In A-level geography, students study hazards and energy management; so visiting volcanoes, a lava show, and a geothermal power station provided a unique opportunity to see these topics in action. We even drove through the 2024 eruption site, where the bus could not stop due to the intense heat that would have melted the tires!

As always, our students did both themselves and the school proud. Geography colours were awarded to F Smith and R Goggins, and half-colours went to E O’Neil, J Wakefield, and Z Dransfield.

A special thanks must also go to Ms Krause and Ms Davis for driving us to and from the airport.

We were delighted to receive wonderful feedback from our tour guide, who shared the following:

"I just wanted to say how much I enjoyed the last week. I was very impressed with the willingness and enthusiasm from your students, as well as the cohesiveness and energy of your staff team. I particularly appreciated the warm welcome you all gave me. Please pass on my best wishes to everyone involved, and fingers crossed your students do well in the summer.’"

Our Iceland trip was a resounding success, providing a remarkable mix of education, adventure, and lifelong memories.
