The Shiplake College Primary and Prep Schools’ Cross-Country Competition returned once again on Saturday 1 February. On a day for excellent running conditions, we welcomed 118 girls and boys from Years 1 to 6 to Front Field to tackle runs of varying lengths. With buzzing support from so many spectators - and even some parents running alongside their children - it made for a wonderful event and a fantastic way to start the weekend!
What was also wonderful was seeing many familiar faces and schools who had attended this event in previous years. It was also great to welcome new runners to the event and new schools including Herries Nursery and Preparatory School, St Andrew’s Berkshire, Micklands, and many more.
The Headmaster, Mr Howe, along with his dog, Simba, were waiting at the finish line to award gold, silver and bronze medals to the first three finishers of each race. Additionally, every participant was given a certificate with their position marked on the front. And to add to that winning feel and provide a championship atmosphere, the Shiplake podium returned on which the top three finishers stood upon to receive their medals and everyone's applause.
The Director of Sport, Mr Bradley, was on duty at the start line and we some of our pupils, as well as members of staff, on duty throughout the morning acting as marshals and recording results. Thank you to everyone who gave up their Saturday morning to ensure that the event ran smoothly.
