During the Exeat Weekend, our French GCSE and A-level pupils travelled to France to visit their pen pals. Year 11’s Max Shevlane and Year 10’s Cameron McClure spoke in Monday’s Whole School Assembly, saying the following:
'Two letters and one year later, we were finally off to visit our pen pals in France. We left school on Thursday evening and drove to Portsmouth Port for our overnight ferry to France. After we had explored the boat, we went to our cabins to look forward for the days ahead.
Early on Friday morning, we arrived in Caen, France, and headed straight to "Collège Wilbur Wright" near Le Mans to meet our French correspondents. We spent the day playing games, mixing with the French students in cricket and football, practising our French, and enjoying the French school lifestyle. In the afternoon, we left for our accommodation in La Flèche for some free time and dinner.
Saturday started with us meeting with our French pen pals at the 24 hours of Le Mans racetrack to check out parts of the 19-mile track and the museum. While we were there, we saw an exhibition race and tried our best at speaking French with everyone possible. Before leaving the museum, we had our last chance to buy souvenirs. We then said goodbye and drove back to La Flèche for a mocktail-making session and dinner before heading back to our accommodation for the night.
We got up early on our last day so that we could pack our bags and clear out the accommodation. We had our last breakfast from the boulangerie and then left for the UK. The ferry home went well, even though some of us were a bit seasick. We arrived in the UK being glad to get some well-deserved sleep after a great trip. We are grateful for the opportunities and experiences given to us from this trip.
We'd like to finish by thanking all the members of staff who helped make this trip possible by supervising us all - Mrs Green, Mrs Rapple Moore, Mr A Jones, and finally Mr Guillaud.'
